Ovulation, Cervical Cancer, Infographic, Vagina

A high level of uric acid in the blood is called hyperuricemia. If your body produces too much uric acid or does not remove enough of it through the kidneys, you can get sick. Gout is a type of arthritis that develops when blood uric acid levels are abnormally high. Uric acid then accumulates in joints, causing inflammation with discomfort and pain. It can further lead to problems like diabetes, leukemia, lead poisoning, dehydration and renal failure.

Some of the reasons of high uric acid level are purine-rich diet, genetics, obesity or being overweight, stress, excess alcohol consumption, renal insufficiency, underactive thyroid, diabetes, acidosis and certain other diseases. Here are some home remedies that may help you control high levels of uric acid.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar acts like a natural cleanser and detoxifier. It contains malic acid which helps in breaking down and removing uric acid from the body. Apples also contain malic acid and you should eat at least one a day. Mix one teaspoon of raw organic apple cider vinegar to a glass of water. Drink this solution 2-3 times daily. Repeat this remedy until your uric acid level comes down.

2. High-Fiber Foods
Adding foods that are high in dietary fiber also helps in lowering uric acid levels in blood. They absorb uric acid from the bloodstream and helps in eliminating excess uric acid from your body through kidneys. If you have been diagnosed with high uric acid, increase the consumption of dietary soluble fibers such as oats, apples, oranges, bananas, broccoli, pears, strawberries, blueberries, cucumbers, celery, carrots and barley.

3. Cherries
The high antioxidant properties in cherries and dark berries reduces uric acid buildup and relieve associated gout pain. Eat half cup of cherries daily for few weeks. You can also drink 1-2 cups of tart cherry juice for about four weeks. Add strawberries, blueberries, tomatoes and bell peppers to your diet for better results.

4. Baking Soda
Baking soda is known to increase your body’s alkalinity and can neutralize stomach acid. Baking soda lowers the amount of uric acid in the body, which leads to pain relief. Mix ½ teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water. Drink 4 glasses of this daily for 2 weeks. People with high blood pressure, or those who monitor salt intake, consult with their doctor prior to trying this method.

5. Lemon Juice
Lemon juice may help balance uric acid levels because it helps make the body more alkaline. This means it slightly raises the pH level of blood and other fluids. Its vitamin C content also helps lower uric acid levels. Squeeze the juice of one lemon into a glass of warm water. Drink it in the morning on an empty stomach. Continue drinking it for few weeks for better results.

6. Water
Drinking plenty of fluids help your kidneys flush out uric acid faster. Drinking adequate water regularly can reduce the risk of recurrent gout attacks. Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water throughout the day. Include more fluids and fresh water-rich fruits in your diet.

7. Olive Oil
Olive oil helps you avoid the production of excess uric acid, which is associated with the consumption of rancid fats. Oils that have been subjected to heat or processing turn rancid quickly. Rancid fats destroy vitamin E in your body – this vitamin is necessary for controlling uric acid levels. Use cold-pressed olive oil in cooking instead of shortening, butter or vegetable oils. Olive oil contains monounsaturated fats, vitamin E and antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory benefits.

8. Vegetable Juices
Drinking extracted juice of French beans is an effective home remedy to treat gout. This healthy juice should be consumed twice a day as it prevents the production of high uric acid in blood. Take carrot juice and add beetroot juice and cucumber juice in it. This is an effective remedy to treat high uric acid in blood.
